Mark Caro is author of the award-winning nonfiction book The Foie Gras Wars and co-author of the new Take It To the Bridge: Unlocking the Great Songs Inside of You. After covering film, food, music and news for the Chicago Tribune over more than 26 years, he currently writes about entertainment and culture for The New York Times and other outlets, is a regular guest host on WGN Radio, and created and hosts the popular “Is It Still Funny?” film series at the Music Box Theatre.
Jon Langford is a Welsh-born, Chicago-based singer/songwriter, bandleader, producer, painter, playwright and poet. Best known for his work in the The Mekons and theWaco Brothers, he is also the guiding force in the Pine Valley Cosmonauts, the Skull Orchard and Wee Hairy Beasties. His visual art includes paintings, comic strips, book and music cover art and more. As his friends at Bloodshot Records say, “At any given time, he might have a few other irons in the fire, or plates in the air, or pies in the oven, or cubes in the tray. It tires us just trying to keep up.”
Jonathan Eig is a former staff writer for The Wall Street Journal, where he remains a contributing writer. Eig has also written for The New York Times, The New Yorker, The Washington Post, and Slate.com, among others. Ken Burns calls Jonathan Eig a "master storyteller." Eig is the author of five books, two of them New York Times best sellers.Eig has taught writing at Columbia College Chicago and Northwestern. He has spoken to audiences at the Library of Congress, the National Archives, Harvard Medical School, and the National Baseball Hall of Fame. His first book, Luckiest Man: The Life and Death of Lou Gehrig, won the Casey Award for best baseball book of the year. Eig has appeared on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, Fresh Air with Terry Gross, and in two Ken Burns documentaries: Prohibition and Jackie Robinson. He is currently working with Burns and Florentine Films in making a documentary on Muhammad Ali. His book about the birth-control pill is in development for a mini-series on National Geographic Channel.
Karen Stein is a freelance writer and the founder and creative director of Here:Say Storytelling, a live storytelling event held each month in Traverse City, MI. As someone who tells her most humbling stories to anyone who will listen and believes that everyone has a story to tell, Karen began Here:Say to open up a community space where people are encouraged to perform their own stories and listen to each other’s. She has appeared on stage at the Dennos Museum and Interlochen Center for the Arts.
