Amigos de las Américas (AMIGOS)

Founded in 1965 in Houston, Amigos de las Américas (AMIGOS) is an international, non-profit organization that provides unparalleled leadership and community service opportunities for young people while concurrently contributing to the well-being of hundreds of communities throughout the Americas.

Supported by a strong network of Pan-American chapters, high school and college students from diverse backgrounds work successfully with host communities and partner agencies to address health and education priorities.

AMIGOS Volunteers immerse themselves in the lives of their host communities and truly experience collaborative development work. During its 43-year history, more than 20,000 AMIGOS Volunteers have gained a life-long commitment to community service, while strengthening multicultural understanding and friendships in the Americas.

At the center of AMIGOS are the youth Volunteers who become catalysts, teachers, learners, and friends through the implementation of community service projects. These same Volunteers return to lead our programs in Latin America as Project Staff. AMIGOS is committed to being a youth-led organization in which creativity, initiative, and multicultural understanding are highly valued.

With AMIGOS, you will have the chance to live with one or two other Volunteers in a small community in Latin America. This program is the perfect way to improve your Spanish fluency while gaining experiences that will set you apart from your peers and give you the skills necessary to accomplish your school and career goals.
