Earlham College Explore-A-College

Have you ever wondered what college is going to be like? Have you ever wished you could try it out before leaving home for the real thing? At Earlham's Explore-A-CollegeSM Program, you can!

By attending the Explore-A-CollegeSM Program you have the opportunity to immerse yourself in a college-like experience before you graduate from high school.

From 70 to 90 students from at least 25 states and usually several other countries attend this program each year. And, 2012 marks the program's 30th anniversary - so come help us celebrate!

College-level classes . . .

The Explore-A-CollegeSM Program is a two-week summer program designed to be a "dress rehearsal" for the real college experience. By taking a class taught by an Earlham professor, you develop college-level discussion, research, and time management skills that will better prepare you for college work..

You choose one course from those offered and are in that class during the day. You have homework to complete, papers to write, tests to take, projects to do, and presentations to give. This is not camp! Lilly Library has extended summer hours during the Explore-A-CollegeSM Program so that you can take advantage of Earlham's award-winning library facilities to study and hold group meetings.

Upon successful completion of the two-week course, you earn two semester hours of transferable college credit.

. . . and the fun!

In addition to taking a class, you experience many aspects of college life: being away from home, having a roommate, getting to know students from all over the U.S.A. and often from several other countries, and participating in many extracurricular activities.

We have planned events that mirror those offered during the academic year: convocation, community service, and an opportunity to learn about other cultures. Other activities, such as movies, off-campus trips, and informal study breaks, give you a sense of the social activities you might experience at college. We encourage students to geing to take the initiative to organize and carry out activities.

And, as we do at Earlham, we can arrange activities tailored to some of your special interests, such as touring the College's public radio station, volunteering at Earlham's Miller Farm, sharing your creative writing, participating in a percussion ensemble, singing in the Gospel Revelations choir, and more. You also have access to College facilities, including tennis and racquetball courts, an indoor pool, the energy center, and acres of hiking and jogging trails.

Earlham students serve as your teaching assistants and as dorm counselors, giving you additional opportunities to ask the many facets of college life.
